Is it fashionable to be unfashionable?<\/h2>\n

It\u2019s an explosion. Wherever you look, you will see fashion sales.<\/p>\n

Online. Offline. In retail stores. In department stores. In malls. Everywhere!<\/p>\n

And while I do feel old, every time I visit one of the stores hosting an \u201cupto 50% off sale\u201d, I would really\u00a0question who devises the wicked wear that\u00a0defines this generation.<\/p>\n

It seems as though designers have taken upon themselves, the responsibility to create uncomfortable, bad looking, badly finished ‘junk’, as fashion.<\/p>\n

Fashion… Really?<\/p><\/div>\n

For example, one of the junkiest styles in\u00a0fashion I have seen, is the asymmetrical hem. In my view it was a designer’s attempt a passing off a shoddy piece of work. This is how it must have come about.<\/p>\n

Designer:<\/strong><\/p>\n

So did the apprentices manage to stitch anything?<\/p>\n

Assistant:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yes Ma\u2019am, but they goofed up\u2026 so now the hem at the front is shorter than the hem at the back.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Designer:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Uhhh. OK. So how many such pieces have they managed to goof up?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Assistant:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ma\u2019am that\u2019s the bad news. They\u2019ve stitched thousands.<\/p>\n

Designer:<\/strong><\/p>\n

*facepalm*\u00a0There goes the business\u2026 how do we salvage the situation?<\/p>\n

A-ha! Let\u2019s just call it an asymmetrical hem. Let\u2019s get some hot model to wear it and plaster pictures of it all over social media. So we can dump this shit on unsuspecting women. Let\u2019s start a new trend!<\/p>\n

Assistant: <\/strong><\/p>\n

Ma\u2019am\u2026 you’re a genius!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Then you have these horrendous fluffy things called Tutu skirts. I mean, who can dream about walking around looking like a giant cotton candy?<\/p>\n

Boyfriend: <\/strong><\/p>\n

Babe, you know we\u2019ve been seeing each other for quite a while now. And now I think I\u2019m finally close enough to share something personal with you\u2026<\/p>\n

Girlfriend:<\/strong><\/p>\n

*starry eyed*<\/p>\n

Yes\u2026 dear?<\/p>\n

Boyfriend:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Babe, if I wanted a poodle, I would have bought one. Can you please stop wearing this tutu skirt?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

But that\u2019s fashion for you isn\u2019t it. Table Cloth. Curtains. Floor Mops. Foot mats. Anything can be converted into clothing. With the right amount of hype, publicity and social media buzz, you could turn\u00a0anything into fashionable wear.<\/p>\n

The funny thing is, while what kids these days call fashion\u00a0may seem outlandish to a lot of us, our parents felt the same way about what we wore, when we were growing\u00a0up.<\/p>\n

Daughter:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dad. Can I buy this tutu skirt?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Dad:<\/strong><\/p>\n

You serious? You want to buy this<\/em><\/strong>?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Daughter:<\/strong><\/p>\n

What do you have against my clothes? It\u2019s in fashion.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Dad:<\/strong><\/p>\n

You know\u2026 what you’re wearing isn\u2019t fashion. Its shabby. It\u2019s garish. It\u2019s horrendous to look at. How can it be cool to walk around, looking like the circus just came to town?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Daughter:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dad. Didn’t you ever wear anything fashionable when you were young?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Dad:<\/strong><\/p>\n

It wasn’t like this in our days. We were sensible. We only wore what was sensibly fashionable, like oversized collars, flared shirt sleeves, bell bottoms, floral prints, acid washed and shotgun jeans\u2026<\/p>\n

Daughter:<\/strong><\/p>\n

And that was cool, because?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Dad:<\/strong><\/p>\n

(Reaching for his wallet) How much did you say this skirt was for?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I guess, as the saying goes, fashion is a question of mind over matter.<\/p>\n

If you don\u2019t mind, it doesn’t matter.<\/p>\n
