The mind is a difficult animal to tame.
How often do we sacrifice a good night’s sleep, stressed about our commitments in the future?
How often do we reflect on and replay incidents that have happened in the past, with us reacting differently in each instance… “That’s what I should have done”?
How often do we hold on to pain, hurt, anger, just because we cannot, or do not want to let go?
We worry over things that in all probability will not happen. We spend our time in a memory, saying something else or doing something differently.
We can’t change the past. We can’t predict the future. Yet, we get angry, we get stressed out and we are filled with worry or regret, while reacting to an imaginary situation.
In the process, we miss the most important part of our life… our life itself.
The choice is ours. Savor the present. Or live in an imaginary world of what could be, or should have been.
We are slaves. Slaves to our minds.
Until we see that, unless we act on it, we cannot really live.
We merely exist.
