Musings To Tease The Most Seasoned Reasoner
There’s a saying in Bengali ‘Nei kaaj to khoi bhaaj’.
Translated literally, it means ‘if you have no work, fry puffed rice’. In effect it means that when you really have absolutely nothing else to do, in order to kill time, you’d do something as redundant as frying puffed rice.
But hey, this article isn’t about not having anything to do. In fact it’s quite the opposite.
If you like keep your mind busy by solving posers or contemplating paradoxes, here’s something for you to chew on.
I came across some of these musings on the internet and some of it is original.
Hope you enjoy them:
- If you eat yourself, would you become double your size or would you disappear?
- Why do credit card companies call them zero interest EMIs, if they block your credit limit for the full price of the product and charge you interest on your outstanding amount?
- If utensil cleaners can have real lime, why do lime drinks have flavoring agents?
- If space is a vacuum, and a vacuum does not conduct sound, shouldn’t most space flicks be silent movies?
- Everything you see is photons reflected off a ‘body’. Every ‘body’ is made up of atoms. Most of an atom is empty space. So shouldn’t we all appear transparent or at least translucent?
- In the movie Terminator, if the first Terminator was unsuccessful in the past, surely they’d have known that in the future? So they would have known he’d fail before they sent him? So why send him? And if they decided not to send him, how did it become a part of the their future history?
- If you traveled time and met your younger self, who would be more surprised? Your present self, seeing how gawky you looked or your past self, seeing how fat and grey you’ve become?
- A dollar coin costs about 10 cents to mint. So shouldn’t a dollar be worth 90 cents?
- If you were to travel to the past and change it in such a way that you were never born, how did you travel to the past to change it?
- Why does freedom require you to follow the rulebook?
- If everyone discusses an unpopular scene from a movie, does it continue to remain unpopular?
- What happens when a masochist says ‘hit me’ to a sadist?
- If Heisenberg made an observation that you cannot observe anything without altering it, what did he base his observation on?
- If the present is a series of instants, are you reading this now or in the past?
- If one believes in freedom of speech, why is there a law that addresses defamation?
Hope you enjoy mulling over these.
