While it is important to have goals in life, it is also important to remember that being rigid in your line of thought usually ends up with you being obsolete and irrelevant to the constantly evolving world.
So if you want to stay relevant you must remember:
Learning No: 16
The goalpost is not fixed
After I graduated from St. Xavier’s, Mumbai in Psychology & Sociology, my career began as a sales officer with a large toy company.
Today, I am the promoter of an agency that provides integrated marketing communications solutions, based out of Gurgaon.
It is as far removed from my original plans as can be.
Early in my career, there were people who worked as ‘cut-paste’ artistes in advertising agencies. They were skilled, few in number, hugely in demand and were paid giant sums of money. However, their profession died a natural death, when technology evolved and industry norms changed. I’m not suggesting that you should be a rudderless ship. You need to have clear long term goals.
But a successful businessman knows that, as long as the movement is towards larger goals… one should change with the times, adapt to the conditions, go with the flow!
Don’t resist it.
Because you cannot control what’s happening in the world.
But you can control the way you choose to react to it.
