The smallest things in life create the biggest impact. And among the many such ‘small’ things is a little word that decides our destinies… ‘Ego’.
I am not speaking about the Freudian definition of the Ego, I refer to the Ego that drives you to do what you do. The Ego that can give you a sense of pseudo happiness or years of grief.
The constant need to massage the ego into believing that we are better than the others can push anyone to madness.
Madness, that drives us to forget that, at the end of the day, we are no different from the person in front of us.
Madness, where we set aside all our inherent goodness, to put down someone, make them feel bad, small, incapable or inferior to get a few moments of sadistic satisfaction.
Nobody is free from this malice… it comes naturally.
Today, in the glam world of jazzy cars and snazzy electronics we are obsessed with a hedonistic attitude to life, judging our success and that of others, by possessions, designations, materialistic achievements.
However, being able to control one’s ego is a key to achieving inner peace and happiness. True happiness is not about who you are, what you own, or who you know, but whether you are able to sleep peacefully at night… and whether you are able to live with the person you’ve become.
Pandering to delusional egotistical dreams can only bring us unhappiness. Because wherever we are, or whatever we achieve, there will always be more to own and more to get.
Through time immemorial, the ego fueled need to have people bow to you has been the cause of hundreds of wars and millions of deaths.
The Ego has been the driving factor behind the fall from grace of many great humans.
Don’t let it be yours.
