It was around midnight
It was around midnight. I quietly headed to your door and waited so that I could announce my arrival at the right time.
I could hear loud noises from inside your home. It sounded like a wild party was on.
I waited, while I heard you scream and shout, over the din the music was creating.
But you weren’t alone. I could hear many voices joining you in creating a racket that could be heard from miles away.
I got a whiff of alcohol while waiting patiently. It seemed to be flowing freely, though from the sound of people complaining at the bar, it wasn’t flowing freely enough.
The party progressed, but it did not seem to go too well.
I could hear you utter garbled nonsense, as the liquor took hold of your senses.
I could hear retching, as you and your friends, unable to hold your drinks, expelled it from your systems, with your heads in the pot.
I could hear angry voices of protest, both from women and their men, as some of your lecherous friends placed their roving hands where they did not belong.
I could hear threats and counter threats, as testosterone fueled arguments turned into booze inflamed brawls.
And it continued…
The music got louder.
The booze flowed on and on.
The stench became unbearable.
The arguments and brawls got more and more regular.
And then… it was time.
The countdown for me to make my appearance had begun.
With what sounded like excitement and celebration all around, I politely knocked on the door and waited for you to open it.
You did… that was the first time I saw you. And if first impressions last forever, yours was not very flattering.
You were drunk to the gills.
You were loud. You were lewd.
You were boisterous and rude.
You were incoherent.
You were disgusting!
Today, you expect me to be nice to you. To be lucky for you. To be kind to you. To bring you happiness, joy and success.
But how can one be nice to someone who makes such a lousy first impression?
How can you expect me to be kind to you, when you didn’t have the basic courtesy to welcome me with respect?
How can I be the best you’ve ever had… when you deserve no better than what you got?
Respect deserves Respect. Love deserves Love. Care deserves Care.
Contempt deserves Contempt.
What goes around, comes around.
You have sowed… and now you shall reap!
And yes… you’re probably wondering who I am?
I’m 2015… 365 days of peace, hope, joy, happiness and success… for those who deserve it!
Happy New Year!
